Asia Society
725 Park Avenue, NY
Asia Circle Cocktail Evenings at Leo Bar
www.asiasociety.org/support/specialevents/leobar/
The Asia Society holds a cocktail night the first Friday of every month at the Leo Bar, located on the 1st floor of the Asia Society from 6 to 9 pm. The events are touted as networking gatherings where you can also tour the gallery from 7:15 to 7:45 pm. These functions are a nice place to chat and interact with a more refined Asian crowd. This group tends to be more diverse than other Asian gatherings. In general, the individuals who come here are intelligent, working professionals. You will meet a lot of Asians in the finance, accounting, medical and law professions. Usually, a good balance of guys to girls. The vibe is pretty conservative at these events. You’ll fit right in if you enjoy talking about your work history and your career. The crowd can feel a little stuffy, but that comes with the territory when attending a cocktail party. The dress is business casual to business formal as almost everyone here comes directly from the office. There is a cover to attend these events in the range of $10 to $15, which includes a museum admission pass. There is a small cash bar that features moderately-priced beer and cocktails. These events are good for networking, and if you’re on the hunt for a more career-minded man, could be a good destination for you.
Asian Event Reviews – YesYas

YesYas
Promoter: Eric Bang
I have been to a few of the Yesyas events, most recently at the Beekman Hotel and Leela. In general, all of Eric’s events will include a cover for both men and women ranging from $5 to $15. Occasionally there will be a short period of time when ladies can get in free, but in general the group charges per head to collect their fees. The drinks at this event are never happy hour price. If you do go, make sure you have enough money to pay for full-price drinks. These events tend to attract a little younger crowd than Oriented and New York Asian Professional, age range 21 to 35 but it also attract a lot more men than women, with the recent gig at Leela probably drawing more than twice as many guys than girls. While some of you ladies out there may think that’s wonderful, unfortunately most of these men were on the shorter side – I would say about 5 foot 7 on average. This group attracts primarily Asian professionals with a wide age range. The only problem I have with this group is that they don’t offer many drink specials. If you are in the mood to have a few drinks and be surrounded by roving groups of men then a Yesyas event would be a good option for you. I will continue to check out their future events, and will provide updates if I feel the crowd dynamics have changed.
Asian Event Reviews – 4 A.M Promotions, Stage Nightlife

4 A.M. Promotions
Promoter: Tom Tung Cheng
Tom’s events are a great option to mix and mingle with a diverse group of Asian professionals in NY. The crowd is primarily Chinese, but all Asian groups are represented. 4 A.M. has both weekday happy hour and weekend events. I find that of all the groups out there promoting the Asian scene, 4 A.M. chooses the best bars for its events. Favorite destinations include Slate, Taj Lounge, Duvet, Manahatta, Empire Hotel and Branch. Unlike a lot of other promoters, there are rarely cover charges for Tom’s events, which is nice. Occasionally for a weekend event there will be a small charge for men, but ladies can expect not to have to pay. The weekday events bring out a more mature group of Asian professionals looking to network and interact. These get-togethers tend to attract more men than women, and the age range is fairly broad, from post-college to 40+. The weekend events are a different story. The crowd becomes much younger and attracts a broader network of Asians from outside Manhattan. Some B&T, and in general less of the Asian professional scene and more of the Asian club scene. If you are looking to interact and meet other Asian professionals, you’re better off going to one of the weekday gatherings. If you’re looking to party and dance the night away while trying to meet some cute guys, the weekend events are definitely for you. Either way, Tom has both options covered. I know Tom personally and can attest that he is a really good guy who’ll go out of his way to meet everyone at his events and help out if there are any issues.
Circle Nightclub

Circle Nightclub
135 W 41st St
New York, NY 10036
(212) 575-4779
Circle near Times Square comes with all of the stereotypes (both good and bad) of a Korean nightclub. Being one of the only true Korean nightclubs in the city, it has a tendency to attract a very fobby Korean crowd. The women here dress to impress, and a lot of the girls look like they just graduated from college. Short and slinky dresses are the norm, and for the most part the men also dress to impress. The space is dominated by a large dance floor with two opposing bars above which hang wall-to-wall projection screens playing music videos. On either side of the dance floor are split levels of seating where patrons can reserve tables for bottle service. The club gets crowded on weekends and a long wait out front is usually to be expected. As is common at most NY clubs, large groups of men without ladies will have a tougher time getting in. The Thursday night crowd is fairly large with a noticeably younger clientele. The music is good and the DJ usually mixes a wide range of tunes, from Top 40 to Korean pop songs. Drinks are pricey, although I have heard of drink specials early on Thursday evenings. If you are in the mood to dance with friends in a large club environment, then Circle is a good option for a weekend night. It’s usually free for ladies on Friday nights. If you are a woman, be prepared to be ogled by the many eager men roaming the confines of this space. With that being said, I have heard a lot of men would go there hoping to score. The club tends to attract a lot of very attractive Asian women. That’s why when I’m not dressing my best I won’t go to Circle. I wouldn’t want to be the ugly duckling there. So if you are in the mood to meet some men and dance the night away this is a good option.
