In the market for a new digital camera? The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W350 may be just what you’re looking for. This camera allows you to take quality pictures with a compact, user-friendly design. Loaded with 14.1 Megapixels, a Carl Zeiss lens and a 4x optical zoom, taking good quality pictures should be a – you guessed it – ‘snap’. This tiny camera comes with a 2.7 inch LCD display, which is big enough to adjust images before and after they’re taken.

Another cool feature of the Cybershot W350 is the Sweep Panorama Mode. This option allows you to take wide shots of sceneries, backdrops, or perhaps a room full of people. You do this by pressing the shutter button and continuously ‘sweeping’, or moving, the camera in the direction of your choice. While you do this, the camera is continuously taking rapid, split-second pictures one right after another. It then stitches them together to create one complete ‘panoramic’ landscaped image during post processing. You can take these wide panoramic shots up to 268 degrees of rotation. A great feature for taking super wide group shots of all the friends you’ll meet at the My Happy Finds Annual Picnic on Saturday, September 4th at Battery Park, NYC!! With tons of fun activities and great people to share them with, there will be plenty of photo ops. Click this link for more info. http://myhappyfinds.com/2010/08/18/mhf-annual-picnic/

There is also a movie mode on this camera that allows you to record video up to 720p of High Def resolution, with the option to use the optical zoom while you’re recording…which is pretty cool.

The battery life is decent…it comes included with a 3.6 V lithium-ion battery, which is capable of 120 minutes of shooting still shots, or approximately 240 pictures, give or take.

Some more general specs on the W350:

Dimensions (Approx.) : W x H x D 3 5/8″ x 2 1/8″ x 11/16″

Weight: approx. 4.1 oz (with battery & memory stick)

Memory Media: 45MB Internal Flash Memory. Memory Stick, SD, or SDHC external memory card

Now if you’re a professional photographer needing complete control over your picture settings and the most advanced quality pictures possible, this camera is probably not for you. But for the majority of us average, everyday picture takers, this camera is more than up to the task. And with a price tag under $200 (currently $169.99 on Amazon.com), it channels the wannabe professional in all of us.

The Maestro won’t give you any problems when it comes to seeing the screen, with a generous 5” display there is more than ample room to fit little details. You turn it on and it gives you plenty of options to adjust the settings to your particular needs. You can avoid toll roads, choose the fastest route or shortest route – all the standard options you would find in most GPS systems.

However, I did find some glitches – some pretty serious – in the model that I had. One problem occurs when you’re on the road and the Maestro is plotting out your route. If you miss a slight turn or in any way go ‘off course’ according to the Maestro, it will freeze up with a blue screen, and ask you if you’d like to simulate the current route. Pretty annoying. The GPS will continue to track your current route, so you will hear the voice giving you directions – but the screen will stop showing you the map of your route until you click on “No” to simulating your route.

Another issue occurred with the Maestro that I had, but perhaps it was just the particular one that I had in my possession. Whenever it was low on battery, the touchscreen seemed to malfunction and would not respond to my touch. I would try to select something on the screen, and it would be totally unresponsive. This would happen sometimes even when I had it plugged into my car. This appears to be a major problem, but maybe I happened to unfortunately get a defective (or broken) version. Whatever the case is, even if this just happened to be a defective model, I can’t help but think it’s just a matter of time until a perfectly good Maestro starts to develop these very problematic glitches.

Aside from these issues, the instructions themselves can be somewhat confusing. For instance, when it was telling me to exit onto a particular freeway/ highway, it would say the name of the road along with all the alternate names that it could be called (e.g. – make a right onto the next exit: Glendale Parkway, exit 34, IS 3-45, Connecticut Junction). At times it sounded like the robotic female GPS voice was giving me a calculus formula rather than a highway exit.

There is also a bell that sounds, prompting you that it’s time to make a turn. The problem is, the bell would sound even if it is just signaling merging traffic; or if you’re just making a slight right or left to follow the road, but not making an actual turn.

Product Dimensions: 5.64″ W x 3.61″ H x 0.79″ D Weight: 4lbs.

Power Source: 1200mA Li-Ion rechargeable battery; up to 3 hours battery life

Again, this may be a broken model that I happened to have. However, with so many problems and glitches one can’t help but assume that even if it wasn’t broken, it is very possible that these problems would develop over time. You would probably be better served to pick up a different Magellan GPS, or shop for a different brand altogether. You’ll need a good GPS that works to help you find your way to the next My Happy Finds social event, which happens to be on Wednesday, 8/25/10 starting at 6pm at Stay Lounge in NYC. Here is the link for more info: http://myhappyfinds.com/2010/08/08/mhf-human-scavenger-hunt-social-networking-event/

I have friends that have given other Magellan models rave reviews, and actually prefer using it over Garmin or TomTom. As for me I’d rather stick to my good old reliable Garmin GPS to guide me in a timely fashion to the MHF Human Scavenger Hunt on 8/25/10.

Until next time, Happy surfing dudes & dudettes!!

MARRIAGE

When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said, I’ve got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes.

Suddenly I didn’t know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce. I raised the topic calmly.

She didn’t seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why?

I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man! That night, we didn’t talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to Jane. I didn’t love her anymore. I just pitied her!

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company.

She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I had said for I loved Jane so dearly. Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.

The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something at the table. I didn’t have supper but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Jane.

When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again.

In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn’t want anything from me, but needed a month’s notice before the divorce. She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a month’s time and she didn’t want to disrupt him with our broken marriage.

This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day.

She requested that every day for the month’s duration I carry her out of our bedroom to the front door ever morning. I thought she was going crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd request.

I told Jane about my wife’s divorce conditions. . She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce, she said scornfully.

My wife and I hadn’t had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mommy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don’t tell our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside
the door. She went to wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn’t looked at this woman carefully for a long time. I realized she was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I wondered what I had done to her.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me.

On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was growing again. I didn’t tell Jane about this. It became easier to carry her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger.

She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily.

Suddenly it hit me… she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.

Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it’s time to carry mom out. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day.

But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, I hadn’t noticed that our life lacked intimacy.

I drove to office…. jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind…I walked upstairs. Jane opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Jane, I do not want the divorce anymore.

She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead. Do you have a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Jane, I said, I won’t divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn’t value the details of our lives, not because we didn’t love each other anymore. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart.

Jane seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away.

At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, I’ll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.

That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I run up stairs, only to find my wife in the bed – dead.
My wife had been fighting CANCER for months and I was so busy with Jane to even notice. She knew that she would die soon and she wanted to save me from the whatever negative reaction from our son, in case we push thru with the divorce.– At least, in the eyes of our son— I’m a loving husband….

The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the bank. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot give happiness in themselves. So find time to be your spouse’s friend and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a real happy marriage!

If you don’t share this, nothing will happen to you.

If you do, you just might save a marriage.
Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

A CHRIST-CENTERED MARRIAGE IS A MARRIAGE THAT IS SURE TO LAST A LIFETIME.

So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate. Matthew 19:6.

Sunday is my favorite day. Why? True Blood is on. True Blood is a TV drama series about vampires and humans living in a fictional small Louisiana town. The main plot is about Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a bar, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Sure, the storyline is great, but the main reason why I watch it? The raw sex scenes. It is the passionate, hungry, thirst crunching, blood sucking, biting, raw sex that puts me on the edge of my seat. All I can think of when I watch this show is that I want some of that. LOL (Note: Don’t get any crazy ideas in your head now.)

True Blood is on every Sunday at 9pm est. on HBO. It’s created and produced by Alan Ball based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris.

If you want to purchase True Blood merchandise such as bottles of Tru-Blood, take a visit down to the HBO store on 6th Avenue right by Bryant Park.

At first glance, the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 looks like every other netbook. Take a closer look and you notice the sturdy design, healthy but easy to carry weight, and the compact and practical overall size. Clearly it’s a solid little machine. The amply sized, raised keys make it easy to type on and you barely notice that you’re not on a full sized laptop keyboard, although the pitch measurement (17.5 cm) is less than the standard 19cm keyboard – roughly 92% to be precise. The three rows of keys are also tapered on a bit of a slant, so that each row has its own “level” if you will, also adding to the ease of typing.

One noticeable issue, however, is the touchpad with integrated buttons. The touchpad as a whole is a bit too small, making it awkward to maneuver the cursor and click and drag items. Using your index finger and thumb to move and click the cursor with one hand can be difficult. It will definitely take some time to get used to. You may even feel the urge to use fingers from both hands at certain points instead of testing your fingers’ dexterity on just one hand. This area could definitely use some improvement.

One distinct feature of this particular Inspiron Mini model is the T-Mobile WebConnect Manager, which is built into the netbook. Upon launch, you see a convenient interface that makes it easy to choose between your local Wi-Fi connections, or a 3G Broadband connection via T-Mobile. You will need a subscription with T-Mobile broadband to access this broadband internet connection, which typically runs about $30 a month. You can actually custom build your Inspiron Mini on the Dell website and choose your preferred broadband carrier (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint are also available).

Another thing I noticed as I was surfing the web was that it seemed to lag a bit when loading pages with multiple tabs open, even when it indicated that the internet connection strength was excellent. From what I’ve come across, occasional lagging and stuttering when trying to multitask with Windows is pretty much par for the course when it comes to netbooks.

The inner makeup of this netbook comes with most of the usual culprits: An Intel Atom N450 processor (1.66 GHz), 1 GB (2 GB Max) of RAM and Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system. The hard drive has 160GB worth of storage, and comes with a 6 cell Lithium Ion battery with an estimated battery life of a little over 8 hours, which is excellent battery life. It also comes standard with a 1.3 Megapixel integrated webcam just above the monitor screen. The monitor display itself is 10.1 inches.

Some more specs: 1.3” Height, 10.5 x 7.8” WidthxDepth. 3lbs. in weight with the 6 cell battery.

The Inspiron Mini comes with a total of 3 USB ports, 1 VGA port for video output, and a 3 in 1 Flash memory reader slot (compatible with Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick (MS), Multi-Media (MMC) cards). It also comes with the standard headphone and microphone jacks on the right side of the computer, along with one of the USB ports and an Ethernet port. There are 5 colors to choose from aside from the standard black. Blue, Red, Pink, Green, Purple are the other alternatives. Each of these optional colors will wind up costing an additional $40.

The Inspiron Mini 10 Series Netbook will typically cost around $310 and up, depending on the features you have included in your version. Overall I would give this netbook a decent recommendation. Aside from the touchpad issue (which will hopefully be fixed in future models) and occasional slow navigation that occurs in many netbooks, this is a solid and user friendly ‘mini’ laptop. And you can’t really go wrong with any computer made by Dell…they usually know what they’re doing over there. Until next time, happy surfing!!
